Research an Angel
There is no doubt that the world will eventually come to an end, but nobody will know when. In Mathew 24:36 of the Bible Jesus says to his disciples, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." In this verse he confirms that no one, but God, knows nor will ever know when the end of the world will arrive. Not even Jesus, the son of God, knows when the world will come to an end. Therefore, if not even the son of God knows when the world will end, then quite obviously, neither will a simple human being. The Bible does not frequently mention the end of the world, as it is not a very pleasing topic, it does however give a general synopsis of what will occur during that time. The Apocalypse for example, gives the entire narrative in chronological order, but states it in a symbolical manner, meaning virtually everything represents something else. However, while the Apocalypse may tell the entire story, it fails to give an exact date. In the book of Revelation 1:1 it says, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass," as you can see it uses the words, "shortly come to pass," rather than giving an exact date. John, the author of this book, uses this term throughout the entire book as a reference to the "date" of this atrocious event. Never in the plenary book of the Bible does it give an exact date of when the world will end. Yet, December 12, 2012 is not the only date that has been predicted for the end of the world, there have been copiouse predictions for this unsought day. Some of those dates include: 1970's- David Berg, the founder of a religious Christian group, predicted a comet would hit Earth and destroy life in the United States, 1975- Jehovah's Wittnesses predicted Armageddon would happen during that year, and 1982- all the planets were perfectly aligned, scientists thought this would create a type of megnetic force within the planets and the sun which would result in massive firestorms. Evidently all these predictions were inacurate for if that were not the case we would no longer exist. December 12 is merely an adition to the collection of wrong end of the world predictions.
December 12, 2012 will be like any other ordinary winter day, this is not the day the world will end. The exact date of the Apocalypse will maintain a mystery to mankind untill the day it arrives, in the meantime people can continue to strive to decipher this unfathomable enigma.
How many guesses does it take to guess the date of the end of the world?... the world may never know.

letter to a leader
I realize that a lot of you do not believe in God and for this reason I write this letter. I know there are those of you who do not have a religion and do not believe in any Gods. However I believe that now more than ever it is crucial for us to repent of our sins and to strengthen our relationship with God.

The Great Debate
I found that Christians believe that the apocalypse has already begun and that we are currently living through the apocalypse. They believe this because a lot of events going on right now(natural disasters, wars, diseases etc.) are very similar to those described in the Apocalypse. According to "Apocalypse Now" by Nancy Gibbs (published in 2002), more than one third of Americans pay attention to how the news might be related to the end of the world and talk about what the bible has to say about it. The article also said that many Christians believe that 9/11 was an omen that the End Times is approaching. Because Christians believe that the second coming of Jesus is near, they are trying to get other people to realize this as well by talking about it at clubs and at church. They want to convert people into Christians so they can be prepared for the second coming of Christ. The opposing view is the opinion of an atheist, not only does NOT believe in the apocalypse but he also thinks that people who do believe in it are harming humanity. "Billy" believes that apocalyptic myths are a great influence on the Republican party. He believes that most of the Republican party is constituted of apocalypse believers. He says that the actions of those believers are affected by their beliefs. For example Billy says that the believers' thoughts are, "If the world is going to end soon anyway, why bother dealing with poverty? It’s easier to give money to your friends and their corporations. Why worry about debt? Once Christ returns, money won’t matter." He also believes that all this carelessness will ruin the economy, he thinks that after we realize that the world isn't ending then it will be too late because the United States will already be ruined.
Overall what the Christians are trying to say is that we need to prepare for the End of the world or also the second coming of Jesus Christ. They believe we should get closer to God and recognize him as the one and only true God. While the atheist believes that all of that is nonsense and it is hurting our economy and if we let it go too far then the US economy will be ruined.

Reflection
I originally chose this topic because I was very interested in learning how the world would end according to the bible, mostly because I am a religious person. Before starting my blog I had only read bits and parts of the apocalypse, but had not read it completely. I knew the earth would have to face many calamities, but that was about it. When I finally chose the apocalypse as my topic I had to read the entire book and take more time to ponder what each symbol might represent. After reading the apocalypse I realized was going to be a very hard topic to research, but I was very interested on knowing more about it. As I had predicted the research was definately difficult. It was hard to find a website dedicated exclusively to the apocalypse because most of them were dedicated to the whole book of the Bible so it would only give a short summarizing paragraph about the apocalypse. The current affairs blog however was a different story. It was not as much of a struggle to find recent news associated to the apocalypse as it was to find a decent website. It was surprising to find out how closely related many events are to the events stated in the bible. Even more surprising however, was to learn that quite a few other people around her (besides my family) believed in the apocalypse. From the survey I took I learned that other teens are also somewhat religious and believe that all the events mentioned in the apocalypse will occur eventually. I really enjoyed finding and learning all this new info, it was very engrossing.
Overall I have greatly enjoyed researching the apocalypse especially since I would have done this even if it wasn't required for school and now I'm getting credit for it. Undoubtedly I have learned a lot with this research blog and I hope to keep learning more on this intriguing topic.
Survey
Are you a religious person? (yes, no or somewhat)
Do you believe in what the bible says? (yes, no or somewhat)
Have you read the book of revelation (or the apocalypse)? (yes, no or some of it)
If you have read the book or heard of it do you believe it's going to happen? (yes , no or somewhat)
My hypothesis was that women were going to be more religious than the men, but that hardly anyone was going to be religious at all. I didn't think anyone would believe what is written in the bible and much less have heard of the apocalypse, therefore I didn't think they would believe in the apocalypse.
To my surprise, my hypothesis was almost entirely wrong, however it was not based on arbitrary thoughts, it was based on past conversations with other teens. According to the surveys. Five of the eight women were religious, one was not, and the other two were somewhat religious. As for the men, only four were religious and the other four were somewhat religious. Five of the women believed what the bible says, and three believed some of it. Two of the men believed in the bible and the rest somewhat believed. Two women and one man had read the book of revelation in the bible and none of the other men and women had read it. Five of the women and two of the men believed that the apocalypse is going to happen. The other three women and four men believed some of it is going to happen and the remaining two gentleman don't believe it is going to happen. As you can see my hypothesis was very much wrong.
I believe I got these results because I gave out the survey to almost all Hispanic people and generally Hispanics are more religious than Americans people because religion is a big part of the Mexican culture. The reason the women were more religious is probably because religion teaches about sensitivity, love, peace etc. and woman are usually more sensitive than men making it more likely for them to be religious. A lot of the men and women did not entirely believe in the bible or the apocalypse most likely because they have not read it or and/or they don't practice Christianity. Also because the book of the apocalypse is very symbolic and they might believe it is all literal, which would make it even harder to believe. These are some of the reasons I got the results I did.
It was very surprising to find out there are many teens who are religious. This survey helped me realize there are many religious people and quite a few that believe in the apocalypse.

Website Review
The apocalypse is not a very common topic so there aren't many websites dedicated to this topic. Most websites are dedicated to the entire book of the bible rather than just one specific book. Some of the websites that are dedicated to the apocalypse usually only offer a summary of the apocalypse and don't even bother to explain it. However the website apocalypse soon is a great website to use if you are trying to find information on what is currently happening with the apocalypse because it is effective, accurate, and credible.
The website does not give you much information on itself, it only tells you that the editor of it is a man named Pietro Arnese and that it was created in 1997. This website is very easy to navigate because everything is laid out in an organized manner. On the intro page you can choose your language, it is given in English, Spanish, Italian, and Esperanto. Once you select your language of preference it takes to a page that lists articles of current events associated with the apocalypse. Some of these articles are created by the website and other are form magazines or other websites. The articles gives the events and the website explains how these events are associated with the apocalypse. All of the information provided by this website is accurate and is related to the apocalypse as well as the Christian faith. The website is rather bias towards the Christian religion as it is the only religion that believes in the apocalypse. It provide you with new with new information very frequently. One of the most recent articles is from november 2008 and it talked about Obama. As you can see the website does get updated regularly which makes it reliable.
Although this website may have an apparent bias towards Christians it is a reliable source of information on the apocalypse. This website provides current events associated with the apocalypse and it explains how these event are related to the apocalypse. Anyone trying to find new information on what is going on with apocalypse could easily find and understand this info by using this website.

Current Affairs
People think that the world is going to end on december 21, 2012 because it is the year that the Mayas predicted it in their calander. A lot of people believe this because the Mayas had very advanced engineering, math, and astronomy. The Mayas didn't just have one calender they had a variety of them, the calandar used to keep track of a very long time was called a Long Count, which they called The Great Cycle. According to the Long Count calander the Great Cycle ends on the winter solstice of the year 2012 and so does time, therfore the world should end as well.
The RFID chip is a chip about twice the length of a grain of rice and the Verichip is a little square chip the size of a sand pebble (probably smaller) only flat. These chips were FDA aproved on cotober of the year2004 and they were designed to prevent identity theft and they store a lot of information about you in them, such as: your social security number, your address, your phone number, even medical info! These chips (mostly the Verichip) supposeddly have a mark on them that very much resemble the mark of the beast (666). Knowing this elicited terror in many Christians because the bible says that people will bear the mark of the beast in thier right hand or on their forehead, so they believe that this is the mark that the bible is talking about.
These are current events that relate to the apocalypse. Although we don't know for sure if they have anything to do with the end of the world, it is definitly terrifing to think that the world is coming to an end.

Background Info
The apocalypse was written by a man named John, who was a servant of God. We don't really know much about the author of the apocalypse, except for that he received this message through an eccentric vision. The apocalypse is the last book in the Bible and it was written shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but there is no specific date of when the book was written .
Practically the entire book is symbolic and very difficult to decipher. it gives you a series of events that we must suffer through in order for Christ to come again and save his people from the anti-Christ who at the time will be ruling the earth and eliminating anyone who worships Christ. This book of coarse is only accepted by Christians and anyone who doesn't believe in Christ most likely doesn't believe these events will happen
There are many interpretations for this book and most of them are exactly the same or very similar to one another. The most common interpretation is that a seven-eyed sheep represents Jesus Christ, a beat represents the anti-Christ, and a seven-headed dragon represents the Devil. The general story id the following:
- The world will suffer through many natural disasters and wars.
- The anti-Christ will fix everything causing the world to think he is the messiah.
- The anti-Christ will rule the world.
- Jesus Christ will come to earth again and will defeat the anti-Christ and the devil, he will put them in chains and throw to the bottomless pit.
- After 1000 years of peace the Devil will break loose of chains and try to defeat God again.
- There will be one final battle in the heavens, angels vs. demons, God vs. The Devil, but of coarse God will win
- After the war God will create a perfect world for his believers to live in and he will once again put the Devil in chains and throw him in the lake of fire forever.
This is basically what the Apocalypse is about and how it all will happen. These are the beliefs of Christians and how they believe the world will end. This book is called the Apocalypse because the definition for apocalypse is a revelation or total devastation and doom, which is why the apocalypse is also known as the book of Revelation. While this topic may be very difficult to understand, it is very interesting and engrossing.

Intro
I chose this topic because it has always really interested me, however I had never really gotten to actually learn about it and know what each separate part means. One of my three questions is has this already begun? my second question is will anyone know when this is happening, if so how will they know? And my last question is how many different interpretations are there of this book and how do you know which one is the right one?
